Is It Possible To Use Too Many Skincare Products?
Um, yes, you sure can. I realize skincare products can be addictive and many of us are always searching for the bigger and better thing to fix it all. But there are some hard truths - inconsistency and over-processing the skin can lead to skin issues, fewer results, and the opposite effects of what you are trying to achieve in the first place...
Sensitive or Reactive skin?
Over my years performing facials, I’ve heard more and more people proclaim they have sensitive skin. The reality is they don’t have sensitive skin at all (which is technically a genetic skin type) but are causing self-inflicted reactive skin which can be alleviated rather quickly by eliminating or changing up their skincare products.
Too much of a good thing
Do I think active ingredients like acid or retinol products are fantastic? You betcha! Do I think you should be using 3-4 of these types of products in your routine? Hell no! More of the same products/ingredients don’t equal more or faster results! This will backfire! Over processed skin can be irritated, inflamed, red and chapped, dry, extra oily, and break out with comedones and acne.
Results
Often when trying to fit multiple products into a skincare routine people tend to jump around a lot. Consistency is key! Many active ingredients require a good amount of time to be effective and receive maximum results. For example, a retinol product takes 3-6 months to see the max effects!
Remember, less is more. Consistency, consistency, consistency! And if you pick the RIGHT products for your individual skin needs you will need a whole lot less, your skin will be healthier and you save a ton of money!
