Exfoliation Dos + Don’ts
DON’Ts
DON’T use more than one exfoliant.
On the days you exfoliate it’s best to focus on nourishing your skin by preventing over-exfoliation and damaging your skin barrier.
DON’T overdo it.
Exfoliating 1-2 times a week is more than enough for most people.
DON’T use too much pressure.
Physical exfoliants and peel pads still get the job done without aggressive pressure. Be gentle!
DON’T exfoliate for several days pre and post-professional skin treatment.
This includes facials, peels, micro-needling, laser treatment, etc. It’s best to listen to your provider’s advice.
DOs
DO moisturize and/or use a moisturizing face mask after.
Exfoliation removes dead skin cells along with natural oils so it is a good idea to add moisture back to the skin.
DO wear sunscreen.
It’s always important to wear SPF, but even more so after exfoliation.
DO make sure you are using the right exfoliant for your skin.
This includes taking into account your skin type, skin conditions, and if you use any prescription topical medications.
DO exfoliate your body too.
Dead skin cells are everywhere and exfoliation isn’t just for the face. Plus, it can help with body blemishes.
