Skin Types

Dry Skin

  • Dry skin will have tiny pores all over the entire face and may appear smooth in texture.

  • Dry skin underproduces oil.

  • Characteristics of dry skin:

    • Matte looking

    • Maybe flakey

    • Maybe itchy

    • Could become irritated or pink from dryness.

  • Constant year-round and may become worse in cold weather.

Sensitive Skin

  • Sensitive skin is a genetic predisposition.

  • Characteristics of sensitive skin:

    • Redness

    • Dry patches

    • Easily irritated by-products

  • Skin is thinner so blood vessels are closer to the surface of the skin, hence the appearance of redness.

  • The skin's lipid barrier isn't at an optimal function & isn't as protective as it should be allowing irritants, bacteria & allergens to penetrate the skin easier.

  • This includes the face and body

Normal Skin

  • Normal skin is by far the rarest skin type.

  • It is considered to have the ideal balance of oil production. "Not too dry, not too oily."

  • This skin type may have a few enlarged pores but overall smaller pores, and even tone and smooth to the touch.

  • A normal skin type can typically tolerate an array of skincare products without being too bothered.

Combination Skin

  • Areas of both dry and oily.

  • Pores can be larger and produce more oil on certain areas of the face:

    • The chin

    • The forehead & nose which is commonly referred to as the "T-zone."

  • Typically shiny/oily in those areas by the end of the day.

  • The cheeks tend to be dry.

  • Can range from "dry-combination" to "oily-combination."

  • Prone to fluctuate dry and oily depending on the weather and seasons.

Oily Skin

  • Oily skin tends to have larger pores throughout the entire face including the cheek area.

  • May have an "orange peel" appearance.

  • This skin type can look coarse or "thick" and tends to become easily congested & have excess oil or “shine.”

  • Blackheads and/or some acne and congestion are common with oily skin.

  • Often will become shiny shortly after cleansing.
