Chapped Lips Dos + Don’ts
DON’Ts
DON’T lick your lips
DON’T wear lip balms on chapped lips containing menthol, peppermint or cinnamon
These ingredients can be pretty inflammatory and cause the lips to feel a burning sensation.
DON’T pick and peel your lips
This includes taking into account your skin type, skin conditions, and if you use any prescription topical medications.
DON’T use plumping, matte or long-wearing lip products
These type of lip products can really dry out your lips.
DON’T apply your retinoid too close to your lip line
While it’s not being applied directly to the lips it can still cause your lips to become chapped.
DOs
DO drink plenty of water.
Having a fav bottle makes drinking water easier. The BRK glass bottles are my newest obsession and maybe it’s in my head but drinking out of a glass bottle just tastes better?
DO use lip balm with SPF in the daytime
Sun Bum Sunscreen Lip Balm SPF 30 - (I personally love Banana) and the Coola Lip Lux SPF 30 are my favs
DO apply a thick layer of lip balm before bed
My all-time favorite night lip product is the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask - I like the original but they are all great.
DO use a humidifier
I love my mini Hey Dewy Humidifier that you can put on your desk or nightstand. Plus, it’s so cute and comes in pink, white or black.
DO exfoliate your lips with a sugar scrub or brush your lips with a wet toothbrush.
No need to purchase a lip scrub if you don’t want to. Mix a little sugar (white or brown) with some olive oil or coconut oil until your desired consistency and voilà you have a lip scrub.
