Is Curology Worth It?

What is Curology, and how does it work?

You fill out questions and upload photos of your skin. You get connected to a medical skincare professional like a dermatologist, NP, or PA. They create a tailored skincare routine for you consisting of a cleanser, treatment, and moisturizer mailed directly to you. They have acne body wash and acne spot patches as well.

As an FYI, this concept is nothing new; it's called compounding, which combines prescription and cosmetic ingredients in a base with recommended percentages from your doctor and created at a specialty compound pharmacy. Curology just makes it easy!

What types of ingredients do their products contain?

Tretinoin: A prescription retinoid/vitamin A, an antioxidant, helps stimulate collagen and cellular turnover, good for acne and aging.

Clindamycin: A prescription topical antibiotic

Azelaic Acid: Soothes inflammation, helps with PIH, kills acne-causing bacteria

Niacinamide: Helps smooth the appearance of wrinkles, pigmentation, pores, hydrating, calming

Tranexamic Acid: Anti-inflammatory, useful for pigmentation

Metronidazole: Prescription medication, good for Rosacea, anti-inflammatory

Zinc Pyrithione: It has antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties that help with yeast's overgrowth on the skin and acne.

Are the products really that customized?

Let's put it this way; only a certain number of proven ingredients can help with acne. Many people with the same skin concerns will be prescribed the same combination of ingredients. From a company operations and logistics standpoint, having thousands of unique formulas would be an absolute nightmare and very costly!

Would I recommend Curology?

Sure, I would because sometimes you need a little more than what you can receive from cosmetic-grade products. I like that on the Curology website; they have a large community and a lot of information. As a realistic expectation, with ANY skincare product, it may or may not work for you.

⚠️ PSA
